Double/Single Seal
One-Sentence Description
After the area is first prepared, oil is sprayed with a distributor and stone is evenly spread using a dump truck, then the area is compacted using a roller.
Applications
A Single Seal or Double Seal - also referred to as either a single bituminous seal coat (SBSC) or a double bituminous seal coat (DBSC) - is best applied over existing Single or Double Seals, existing blacktop, or over another product of ours, a Surface Treatment. A Single Seal is primarily used on roads, driveways, parking lots, and other applications where the existing traffic areas are still in fair condition, whereas a Double Seal may be used for traffic areas that are in less than fair condition. Single and Double Seals get their name due to the fact that they seal out water and prevent it from getting under the asphalt, which is the leading cause of early failure.
Description
In preparation for a Single or Double Seal, the area is generally prepared by removing dirt, debris, and loose stone using a power broom. Then, a layer of E-3 liquid asphalt is applied using a distributor truck. After the oil is applied, a uniform layer of 1B washed limestone is uniformly spread, then compacted using a roller. One application of this process we refer to as a Single Seal. Consequently, a Double Seal is this process completed two times.
